Fix: M-Audio Mobilepre and Sonar: No Sound

Mine's less shiny blue than this one

So I bought an M-Audio Mobilepre recently to use as a USB soundcard/interface for my PC Workstation.  Instantly I came across some problems.

The first was that it didn’t come with Vista drivers.  (I know, Vista sucks, and I should be using XP anyway.  But, I’m giving it a go.)  So, I had to download those from the M-Audio site.

That got it installed.  It worked fine with Fruity Loops, and I could hear myself through the mic.  But, I couldn’t get Sonar to work at all with it.

I went into the audio tab in Sonar, set the drivers to Asio, and … nothing.

It took me a while, but here’s what I did to “fix” the problem.

  • run Msconfig, and deselect the taskbar fuction for the Mobilepre in the auto startups tab (It will probably say Avid software or something).
  • Restart your computer
  • done

I should work.  If not, make sure that in your Master track, your output is set to your Mobilepre devise.  Why a taskbar icon would pose such a problem I don’t know.

This is only a partial fix, for me however.  I can’t get both Fruity Loops and Sonar to run together.  I think when they’re both running, Fruity Loops is hogging the ASIO driver.  So, I have to close one down to use the other … bummer! I guess I’m not going to be using Sonar to run FL Studio anytime soon.
